सार

Textbooks are one of the most important components of teaching and learning, as they are the primary means by which information is passed on to students. Also, one of the main purposes of textbooks is to make the information that already exists clear and accessible to students in a way that is easy to understand. Therefore, while selecting a text book, academicians consider many aspects, such as texts, illustrations, exercises, printing, binding, etc. The main aim of the study is to explore the opinions of Government Secondary School teachers about JKBOSE (Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education) IX standard political science textbook as an effective tool in teaching-learning. It is further intended to know the views of the teachers regarding the language and content used in the textbook. The study determines the opinions of 67 teachers from 14 zones of the Jammu district by using simple random sampling. Percentage and content analysis are used to draw inferences. Findings reveal that the majority of the teachers are satisfied with the physical features of the textbook; some of them suggested that the book is quite relevant for the new curriculum, but certain changes can be made in the future. Further, the majority of the teachers stated that the language of the political science textbook is clear and understandable to the students. Students do not face difficulty in understanding the language of the book. However, some teachers argued that there must be an addition of some more keywords and also there is a need for improvement in the font size of keywords.
