Abstract

India’s education system has witnessed multiple reforms, with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005 being a significant milestone in shaping school education. However, the NCF 2023, introduced in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, marks a paradigm shift by emphasizing flexibility, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. Unlike previous content-heavy curricula, NCF 2023 promotes competency-based learning, preparing students for the demands of the 21st century. This study aims to analyze NCF 2023’s key features, objectives, challenges, implementation strategies, and its potential impact on India’s educational landscape. It seeks to evaluate how the framework aligns with global educational trends while addressing the specific needs of Indian learners. The research adopts a secondary data analysis approach, utilizing government reports, policy documents, scholarly articles, and comparative studies on curriculum frameworks. Insights from NCERT, MHRD, and international educational models are examined to understand the framework’s implications. The study highlights that NCF 2023 focuses on multidisciplinary and skill-based education, integrating vocational training into mainstream learning. It promotes mother tongue-based instruction for inclusivity and introduces flexible assessments, replacing rote memorization with holistic evaluation methods. The framework also incorporates digital tools and AI-driven learning to modernize pedagogy. However, challenges like teacher training, digital infrastructure, and uniform implementation persist. While NCF 2023 has the potential to transform education by blending traditional knowledge with modern practices, its success relies on effective execution, policy alignment, and collaboration. Future research should assess its long-term impact and implementation strategies.
