In this Independence Day-themed editorial, we explore the pressing issue of language barriers in academic research, particularly in the Indian context. We argue that the predominance of English in scholarly publications marginalizes research conducted in various Indian languages, thereby limiting its accessibility and representation. This exclusion contradicts the democratic principles that India cherishes. Our journal's commitment to multilingualism serves as a step towards intellectual freedom and inclusivity. As we celebrate India's Independence Day, we call for a more democratic research environment that honors both the unity and diversity of the nation.

सोमेश राय पंजाब केंद्रीय विश्वविद्यालय में सूचना और संचार अध्ययन स्कूल के तहत पुस्तकालय और सूचना विज्ञान के सहायक प्रोफेसर हैं। इससे पहले उन्होंने बनारस हिंदू विश्वविद्यालय के पुस्तकालय और सूचना विज्ञान विभाग में सूचना विज्ञान और मशीन लर्निंग अनुप्रयोगों पर एक वरिष्ठ अनुसंधान फेलो के रूप में काम किया है। उनकी रुचि के व्यापक क्षेत्र सूचना विज्ञान, कंप्यूटर और समाज और आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस हैं। उन्होंने नेशनल इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ टेक्नोलॉजी सिलचर, असम से इलेक्ट्रिकल इंजीनियरिंग में बीटेक की डिग्री और बनारस हिंदू विश्वविद्यालय, वाराणसी से एमएलआईएससी की डिग्री प्राप्त की है।
